We set three goals for this project:

  • Increase Foodbank donations at a time when supplies are low and demand is high
  • Help our customers further their connections to their community
  • Increase foot traffic to our customers
We provided all of the espresso, cups, lids, paid advertising, in store posters, public relations press releases and food donation collection services to our customers. All of the donations, advertising and press releases focus on our customers' names and locations, not Williamsburg Coffee & Tea. We are doing this because the Central Virginia Foodbank is involved in more community projects than you may know … and they all need your help.

Community Kitchen

Hunger is a heartbreaking reality for 395,000 people in our Central Virginia community. Those who hunger are the frail elderly, disabled, working poor and approximately 25,000 children in Richmond and Petersburg alone. The Community Kitchen opened in October 2007 and can produce up to 10,000 meals daily and provide more than 3,000 home delivered meals.

Kids Café Program

The Kids Cafe Program is a partnership between the Central Virginia Foodbank and established after-school and summer programs in the Richmond Metro area that provide safe places for children to participate in activities designed to enhance educational and social development. The Community Kitchen utilizes "rescued" foods to prepare and then deliver nutritious meals to 50+ Kids Café sites. Kids Cafes provide as many as 3,000 meals on weekdays during the school year and as many as 4,000 meals daily during the summer months.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels serves the City of Richmond, and the counties of Charles City, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent and Powhatan. On June 1, 2005, Meals on Wheels proudly celebrated its expansion to the Tri-Cities and is now providing daily meals to the cities of Colonial Heights, Hopewell and Petersburg. More than 1,000 meals are served each day to about 800 clients. This year about 265,000 meals will be delivered to more than 1,500 clients by volunteers to our elderly and disabled neighbors throughout Richmond and Central Virginia.
